Course Description: 

This course is designed for students seeking ordination in the Presbyterian Church USA. It is required by Committees on Preparation for Ministry. This class will provide the necessary information for taking and receiving a passing grade on the Standard Ordination Exams in the Presbyterian Church. Students who are not seeking ordination are welcome to take this class as a way of studying how Reformed Theology intersects with Church Polity. It is required for all PCUSA students who wish to receive the Reformed Studies Certificate.

Course Requirements: 

Students will be expected to have full knowledge of the Presbyterian Church’s Book of Order as well as the 11 Confessions of the Presbyterian Church. Attendance at each class is required and there will be weekly three page papers. There is no final.

Basis of Evaluation: 

Students will be graded on their class attendance and participation and on their ability to write essays that show knowledge of Presbyterian Polity and pastoral sensitivity.
