Course Description: 

The course is about the intersection of theology and aesthetic theory. We will read theologians and philosophers both from the tradition and from our contemporaries, though the emphasis will be on trying to understand the different options present in the tradition. We will also use a number of works of art, visual and musical and literary, to focus our discussion. 

Background Expected: 

No previous courses in philosophy are required.

Course Requirements: 

The course will require two papers (one five pages and one ten pages), and weekly paragraphs responding to the readings. There will also be a short final exam.

Basis of Evaluation: 

The basis for evaluation will be the requirements listed above, and class participation.
