Malik is a Buddhist chaplain at New York University and head monk for Myrtle Avenue Zen Fellowship, an affiliate Zen Buddhist dojo of the American Zen Association. He received Zen monastic ordination at the New Orleans Zen Temple in January 2017 and Bodhisattva (lay) ordination in July 2014. He lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife, Nisha.
