Ray heads up a research center at the St. Louis Fed examining poverty and inequality in the U.S., especially wealth inequality. He’s been working in this field since graduating from YDS, including 20 years in DC at both think tanks (namely New America) and in the U.S. Congress. He also worked in Rome at a UN agency focused on rural poverty. After Rome he earned an MPA from the Kennedy School. Ray is also now a senior fellow at the Aspen Institute, where he focuses on family financial security issues. For nearly 10 years, Ray was a standing advisor on poverty issues to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and presently serves as a member of the Peace and Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Ray moved to St. Louis in 2009 when his wife, Lora Iannotti, joined the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis. Ray and Lora have been married since 1994 and have three children, Arianna (20; Loyola-Chicago), Isabella (18; UCLA), and Elias (15; still in high school).
