Stephanie Wong '13 M.Div.
When I came to YDS, I was searching for something to which I could give my life. Not certain what shape it might take, I took up wholeheartedly everything Yale offered - studying Greek, interning as a chaplain in a local school, learning historical theology. In the summer of 2011, however, I had the opportunity to participate in Dr. Chloe Starr's travel seminar on Christianity in China. We had a remarkable trip, discussing theology with Beijing literary scholars, sharing stories of seminary life with Inner Mongolian bible college students, visiting the Catholic shrine at Sheshan and much more. Back at Yale, I began studying East Asian Christianity in greater depth, as well as Chinese language studies. During this time, I especially appreciated the warm community I found in the YDS International Students Fellowship. In the Fall, I am beginning doctoral work at Georgetown University, studying Christianity and Chinese culture. In fact, I'm in Hong Kong right now participating in a workshop, involving scholars from Yale, Georgetown and Chinese University who study religion in modern Hong Kong. As I look forward to starting my PhD, I am grateful that YDS helped me find a field which I am so excited to dedicate my life towards!
