Previous Supervisor Experience
I have served as a supervisor for Yale Div interns in my previous position and reintroduced interns to this parish. I have been a "mentor" to several postulants for Holy Orders in the Diocese of CT
I am a former member of Committee II (regarding ordination to the priesthood) for the Committee on Ministry. In my previous profession with Bread for the World and the Amercian Friends Service Committee, I supervised interns.
Previous training in supervision
I participated in the several weeks' long supervisory training run by the former OSM Director. I draw on my own experience (both good and ill) of having interned for three years in two different parishes while getting my M.Div. and S.T.M. degrees, as well as "secular" interns before that for social justice organizations.
Why mentor a student?
I consider this one of my most important ministries to the larger church, and I believe our parish tends to agree. I appreciate sharing theological reflection and practical ideas with seminarians, and learning from one another. I also enjoy being held accountable for explaining the reasons for certain practices, whether my own or those of the parish. I love watching seminarians try new things(often), succeed (usually), fail (sometimes), discern (constantly) and grow (always)
