Course Description: 

The course offers an introduction to the language of the Hebrew scriptures, Biblical Hebrew. Through the year, the student will work through the grammar book, doing exercises and practicing paradigms. Among these exercises are the reading of specific biblical texts.

By the end of the year, the student should have a basic grasp of this ancient language’s grammar and some experience reading texts in this language.

Background Expected: 


Course Requirements: 

Timely completion of homework assignments, participation in class exercises, writing weekly quizzes, and a midterm and final exam.

Basis of Evaluation: 

The grading of the tests and for the semester as a whole is based on a percentage, according to the following model:

100-95 = H

94-90 = H-

89-87 = HP+

86-83 = HP

82-80 = HP-

79-70 = P

69-0 = F

Grades are determined based on attendance, participation in class (especially in the reviews of homework assignments) and in the actual homework from lessons (25%), quizzes (each on only one or two lessons) (10%), and a midterm (both midterm and final exam are cumulative) (40%).
