Course Description: 

A close reading of selected chapters of the Hebrew text of Isaiah in order to test recent theories of the book’s compositional history.

Background Expected: 

Two years of Biblical Hebrew or the equivalent; previous scholarly work in biblical studies.

Course Requirements: 

Preparation of the texts to be discussed in class; assigned readings in the scholarly literature; participation in the class discussion; a major final paper on a problem or a passage in Isaiah.

Basis of Evaluation: 

Performance in the class discussion and on the paper.
