Course Description: 

This course will consist of lectures by the instructor on certain topics, readings in English translation of selected works of Martin Luther, readings in secondary literature on Luther’s life and thought, and class discussion.

Background Expected: 

A basic knowledge of church history and European history, especially medieval and sixteenth century history in the West.

Course Requirements: 

Required readings in Luther in English translation and sceondar literature, participation in class discussion, at least one class presentation, one short paper of about four pages, and a term paper of about 15 pages.

Basis of Evaluation: 

Class participation and class presentation 25%; a short paper 25%; and a term paper, 50%.
