Performance Behind Bars
The course will meet in a maximum security prison where students will collaborate with incarcerated men on the creation of performances of theater and music inspired by their collective reading of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Students will learn how to apply their skills as writers or performing artists to a real-world situation, and gain knowledge of the American criminal justice system and its relevance to Dante’s poem from a unique perspective behind bars.
No performance experience is necessary.
Attendance at all prison meetings is required as are weekly papers.
Attendance, listening skills, and the ability to write papers that connect the readings to the prison experience.
