Now more than ever, YDS students need help to focus on their vocation and liberate them from the stress of education debt.
Uprooted during their spring break, now scattered to locations around the world, and interacting with professors and classmates via video seminars and email, our students have continued their studies as faith leaders in formation. In the midst of the growing pandemic news, we invited a new cohort to join the YDS community next fall, and the admissions yield has been strong, despite the uncertainties ahead.
Over 90% of YDS students qualify for financial aid, based on demonstrated need. Currently, students who take out loans graduate with an average debt of $58,805, of which more than $35,000 is from their time at YDS.
One hundred percent of the YDS Annual Fund goes directly to financial aid.
During the month of May, we are pleased to have an anonymous donor sponsor our YDS Financial Aid Challenge that will match gifts as follows:
- 2:1 match for recent graduates (Class of 2010 and later)
- 1:1 match for graduates prior to 2010
- Gifts may be made in a single payment or with recurring automatic payments
- The minimum gift to qualify for this challenge match is $50
Concern over finances is the number one reason accepted applicants do not attend YDS—opting for larger financial aid offers elsewhere. Insufficient financial aid not only deters individuals, but also impedes a vibrant, inclusive community. We must continue to attract and retain the outstanding students from diverse backgrounds who make YDS an exceptional place to learn. Financial aid is foundational to the lively intellectual and cultural exchange that energizes classes and the campus community.
We invite our alumni to take advantage of this rare opportunity to double or triple their gift through the Financial Aid Challenge and show support of our dedicated students. It has never been easier or more important to support the YDS Annual Fund. A gift today shapes tomorrow’s leaders of the church and world by preparing them for lives of ministry and service.
