Scholarship match program for students applying internationally

Christianity’s growth is shifting, and the modern church is rapidly expanding in Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world not historically identifying as Christian. Yale Divinity School plans to broaden our international reach and our engagement with the global church, which will require more support for students applying from outside the United States as they face unique financial barriers.

YDS is grateful for a $150,000 grant from an anonymous foundation allowing us to offer a 1:1 match on gifts for such international applicants. Donors who give by December 31 will receive the match and double their impact.

To broaden the regions represented in our student population to reflect the global growth of Christianity, the Divinity School must pair recruiting efforts with meaningful financial aid for promising international applicants.

YDS aims to create new scholarships aimed at supporting international applicants. Given the need to help establish a “pipeline” of strong international applicants by collaborating with overseas partners, our goal is to start with a small number of scholarships for such applicants and increase this number over time.

  • International students are eligible for the same level of YDS scholarship aid as U.S. citizens.
  • 100% of students who applied internationally received scholarship aid from the School in recent years. We would like to grow the number of students and the amount of support they receive.
  • While international applicants are eligible for scholarship assistance, this aid is not sucient to cover the full cost of attendance; there are often additional financial hurdles for international students.

Producing great leaders takes great resources. Fully funding student financial need is critical to strengthening Yale Divinity School’s capacity to train students for leadership in the academy, church, and society.
