People Notes - May 2016

Two distinguished scholars have earned appointments to faculty positions in Latino/a Christianity. Benjamin Valentin will come to YDS initially as a visiting professor and then move onto a tenure track line in 2017-18. Erika Helgen will join the faculty next year as assistant professor of Latino/a Christianity.

Valentin is currently Professor of Theology and Culture and Director of the Orlando E. Costas Lectureship in Latino/a Religion and Theology at Andover Newton Theological School. Helgen completed her Ph.D. in history at Yale in 2015 and spent the past academic year as a postdoctoral fellow in the Collegeville Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research at St. John’s University in Minnesota.

Regina Mooney ’79 M.Div. ’83 S.T.M. has been appointed President of St. Joseph’s Academy, a college preparatory school in Frontenac, Mo.

Jere Wells, currently Director of the Glenn Institute for Philanthropy and Service Learning and Assistant Headmaster at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta, will join Berkeley Divinity School as Interim Director of the Educational Leadership and Ministry (ELM) program at Berkeley and YDS. Wells will succeed Tony Jarvis, who is retiring.
