Reflections, Yale Divinity School’s theological magazine, has won top national honors in the Associated Church Press annual awards.
Reflections won the Award of Excellence in two best-in-class categories for 2015: the overall print journal category and the category for an issue devoted to a particular theme.
The Fall 2015 issue, “New Voyages: Church Today and Tomorrow,” won an Award of Excellence for themed issue. The issue examined creative congregational responses to the challenge of 21st-century church affiliation and identity.
An ACP judge wrote: “This series of essays from lay and ordained ministers from many Christian denominations is excellent, as is the editing of them. Even though each is different in tone, content, and persuasion, they are each thoughtfully crafted and very readable for a church professional or person in the pew.”
YDS Dean Greg Sterling said, “It is central to our mission at Yale Divinity School to help lead the revitalization of Christianity in this time of great cultural change. The award-winning collection of essays in our Fall 2015 issue will, I hope, provide helpful examples and inspiring ideas for people who are creating the change and innovation that are needed inside and outside churches. We are grateful to receive this recognition for our efforts.”
Reflections is produced twice a year by YDS for 17,000 subscribers, including some 9,600 YDS alumni. Using essays, poetry, and artwork, the journal focuses on one theme per issue—an exploration of the theological dimensions of a current political or religious debate. The magazine is edited by Ray Waddle and designed by Peter W. Johnson; Sterling is publisher.
Reflections is produced as an extension of the School’s mission to promote faith, intellect, and leadership in contemporary society. An online version of the magazine, as well as information about free subscriptions and financial support, is at reflections.yale.edu.
The awards were announced in April at the ACP’s annual banquet in St. Louis. ACP’s membership includes about 60 denominational journals, religion-theme magazines, institutional websites and newsletters, and about 45 individual members’ e-zines, and others.
