In this time of climate crisis, Yale Divinity School has built a regenerative student residential complex. Giving back to the environment more than it takes, the Living Village dares to answer one of the most profound theological challenges of our time and sets new standards for sustainability. Upon certification, the Living Village will be the largest Living-Certified residential complex on any university campus. Designed to meet the Living Building Challenge, the most aggressive standard for sustainable buildings today, it serves as a key component of Yale’s Planetary Solutions initiative.

We are charged with the responsibility to be stewards of creation. Sustainable living is not only an ecological decision but an ethical one, driven by our growing recognition that humans are part of nature, not lords over it. Compelled to put biblical and ecotheological principles into practice, we invite others to join us in creating a flourishing future.

Yale Divinity School has chosen the world’s most stringent and progressive green building standards to guide the overall village design and construction process.
