Around the world, religious communities are addressing the ecological challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution. This webinar will introduce participants to the emerging academic field and moral force of religion and ecology. We will offer practical examples of engaged religious environmentalism to inspire transformational change at churches, nonprofits, and other settings. This webinar will also serve as an invitation to the 30 Years of Religion and Ecology conference at Yale Divinity School on October 16, 2026.

Living Earth Community: From Ecological Vision to Transformative Action with John Grim and Sam King

In a time of ecological breakdown, ancient spiritual teachings are converging with contemporary science to reclaim humanity’s place in the Living Earth Community. This webinar will introduce participants to the new Living Earth Community website, an interactive knowledge commons featuring multimedia resources on the intelligences of nature, ecological worldviews, and Earth Law. We will focus on the practical applications of shifting from viewing the natural world as a “collection of objects” to a “communion of subjects,” including ocean, freshwater, and forest protection, biodiversity restoration, and the Rights of Nature movement. The webinar will also serve as an invitation to the Living Earth Community conference at the Yale Peabody Museum on October 17, 2026.
