Professor Granby is a scholar of Black religious, political, and philosophical thought. His research and teaching reflect an interdisciplinary approach to the study of race and religion, ethics, social epistemology, aesthetics, and ecological justice. His current projects focus on the ethics of love, the politics of listening, and the practice of social criticism. His work weaves together insights from Black studies, pragmatism, cultural and literary studies, and the history of philosophy and theology. Professor Granby is completing two books: The Racial Politics of Listening: Deference, Power, and Relationality (Oxford University Press, forthcoming) and Truth in Love: The Ethics of Social Criticism. Dr. Granby is a Baptist minister, who has been deeply shaped by the writings of Howard Thurman, James Baldwin, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
