McLeod graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a B.A. in French. She has two children and two grandchildren. McLeod is currently executive director of the Grant Me The Wisdom Foundation, which focuses on education and health care for women and girls in the developing world. She is on the Sojourners Board of Directors. She is currently involved with Impact Partners (documentaries that change the world), Women Moving Millions (NGO focused on women and girls), KIPP, Teach for America, Teach for All, The Fistula Foundation, Clinton Global Initiative, Donors Choose, Acumen Fund, and Communities in Schools.
