Evans is retired as pastor of the First Congregational Church of Darien, CT and a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers) with ministerial standing in the United Church of Christ. He currently lives at Pilgrim Place in Claremont, CA. He was a close friend of the late William Sloane Coffin Jr.
