Scott C. Williamson hails from Bronx, New York. He attended Bates College, in Lewiston, Maine, where he studied United States history. After Bates, Williamson spent the next nine years studying at Yale University. He left Yale with a Master of Divinity degree from Yale Divinity School, a Master of Philosophy degree, and a Ph.D. in Religious Ethics from the Department of Religious Studies. Williamson wrote his dissertation on the moral and religious thought of Frederick Douglass under the guidance of Douglass scholar and Yale historian, John Blassingame, and ethicist Gene Outka. He accepted a call to Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1997.

Community service is very important to Dr. Williamson and during his time in Louisville he has served as a Big Brother, on the ethics committee of the Home of the Innocents, on the Fern Creek Fire Department, as a commissioner on the Louisville Metro Human Relations Commission, Advocacy Board, as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA), and as a facilitator for the former Restorative Justice Louisville (RJL).  

Recently, Williamson has added an additional duty to his service at Louisville Seminary by becoming the school’s first Seminary Ombuds.
