A New Vision of Youth Ministry Beyond the Walls of the Church: Mission Work and Outdoor Ministry

Andrew Wicks and the Rev. Ryan Gackenheimer will explore the ways in which outdoor ministry and mission work are evolving and engaging youth today. It will also provide tangible tools for youth ministry during the COVID-19 pandemic and more broadly in the 21st century.

Presenters:

Andrew Wicks is the founder of Incredible Days, an organization which provides experiential learning programs and leadership training. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Incredible Days has been a pioneer in the field of Virtual Mission Trips, and in addition to innovating virtual mission trips, Andrew has led programs in North America, South America, Asia, and the Caribbean. Andrew also serves as the Director of Youth Ministries and Special Missions at First Church of Christ, UCC, in Glastonbury, CT.

The Rev. Ryan Gackenheimer joined Silver Lake in 2016, coming from more than seven years of ministry as Associate Pastor of the First Congregational Church UCC of Essex, Vermont. As a young camper in Indiana Ryan found a passion for the life transforming ministry that happens at camp. He has prior camp experience in Indiana, Vermont, and Idaho, and has served on the Board of the UCC’s Outdoor Ministry Association and is currently the OMA Chaplain. A graduate of DePauw University and Eden Theological Seminary, he and his wife, Rev. Abby, have a young son, Keadyn.
