Join Prof. Hunsinger of Princeton Theological Seminary and your ministry colleagues as we explore different ways to practice having difficult conversations in ministry. Let’s face it: Some conversations are just plain difficult—and not just those within churches.
Sometimes we do everything we can to avoid them. We don’t have the skill or the ease (or the courage?) that we’d like in moving toward a difficult conversation. How do you prepare for a difficult conversation? What do you wish you could do to improve your skills and increase your confidence?
Workshop Leader:
This workshop will be led by Deborah Hunsinger, Charlotte W. Newcombe Professor of Pastoral Theology at Princeton Theological Seminary and experienced trainer in nonviolent communication (and YDS alum). She is co-author (with Theresa Latini) of Transforming Church Conflict: Compassionate Leadership in Action (Westminster/John Knox) and author of Bearing the Unbearable: Trauma, Gospel and Pastoral Care (Eerdmans), which just won the Book of the Year Award for 2015 from the Academy of Parish Clergy. Prof. Hunsinger, along with Prof. Latini, was a guest presenter at YDS in 2015. We are delighted to welcome her back to YDS.
Continental Breakfast and Light Lunch will be served.
Open to: For students, ministry colleagues, community leaders and others who want to avoid burnout, decrease their stress, and truly thrive in their work.
