Acacia Chan ’18 M.A.R.

I am a Master of Arts in Religion graduate with a concentration in Bible. My work is primarily in New Testament literary criticism with a particular focus on legitimization techniques, which are the ways in which authors establish credibility in texts.

Before attending Yale Divinity School, I completed my undergraduate degree in biblical languages at Walla Walla University, where I also tutored students in Koine Greek.

While many of my exegesis courses have been highlights of my time here, Professor Michal Beth Dinkler’s Greek Exegesis of Luke class from this past autumn was the one that defined the potential of a scholastic community for me. As a class, we shared insights and laughs that allowed us all to comfortably learn from one another. That camaraderie has continued both inside and outside the classroom.

This coming autumn, I will start a Ph.D. program at The University of Texas at Austin in Religious Studies with a concentration in Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean. As I look into the future with anticipation, I acknowledge the people who have made me feel at home in this space and in academia more generally. All my gratitude in this moment goes to them.
