Berkeley Divinity School Announces 2013 Leadership Colloquium

“Showing People Jesus”—paving a path for the renewal of Christian faith in North America—is the theme of this year’s annual Leadership Colloquium, which Berkeley sponsors every year during the spring semester. The colloquium is funded by the Wesley Royce Leadership Initiative, a new initiative of the recently completed capital campaign, and brings church leaders to campus to share their successes and frustrations with students. The aim is to prepare future leaders for the challenges they will face in parishes, schools, and other institutions they may serve.

This spring’s colloquium acknowledges a world where church membership has declined precipitously in the past 40 years in mainline Protestant denominations. Colloquium speakers will explore how the Episcopal Church might re-imagine itself in the 21st century to be a place where people can grow deeper in their love and knowledge of God through Jesus Christ.

Here is a look at the dynamic leaders coming to Berkeley:

February 5: “The Bible Challenge” led by The Rev. Marek Zabriskie. Marek Zabriskie ‘89 is rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Whitemarsh, Pennsylvania, editor of “The Bible Challenge” book, and Founder & Executive Director of The Bible Challenge and The Center for Biblical Studies.

February 19: “The Changing Face of the Church” led by The Rev. Canon Anthony Guillén. Anthony Guillén is the Missioner for Hispanic/Latino Ministries for The Episcopal Church which seeks to guide the church in forming hospitable communities of faith that nourish, strengthen, and develop disciples of Christ in the Anglican tradition within Spanish-speaking communities.

February 26: “Schools as Incubators of Faith” led by The Rev. Stuart Dunnan. Stuart Dunnan is headmaster of St. James’ School in Hagerstown, Maryland; a post he has held since 1992. St. James is the oldest Episcopal boarding school founded on the English model in the USA.

March 5: “Forming Disciples” led by The Rev. Carol Anderson. Carol Anderson DD ‘92 is the former rector of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, California and was one of the first women to be ordained in The Episcopal Church. Under Carol’s leadership, All Saints grew in every area of ministry with a major focus on disciple-building.
