In the new episode of the Yale Divinity School “Quadcast,” YDS Lecturer Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove offers insights on the upcoming presidential election drawing from his new book on white poverty with Bishop William Barber. He also discusses how a peacemaking trip to Iraq during the U.S. invasion transformed his life and talks about his work helping lead the new Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at YDS.
“Talking to this swing vote is the key to winning because this is the largest group of people who are not going to show up unless somebody talks to them,” Wilson-Hartgrove says of infrequent, low-income voters and their potential role in the November election.
Wilson-Hartgrove is Assistant Director of the Center for Public Theology and Public Policy at YDS, founded in January 2023. “What we’re trying to do is to give people a framework to understand where your faith connects with issues that matter to you,” he says.
