YDS PEACEWEEK 2012

Voices and Stories: A Collective of Hope and Struggle from Israel and Palestine

Introduction:  This proposed week of events and speakers grows out of YDS student reflections and experiences listening to the stories of peace seekers living in Israel and Palestine. We are invited to listen to the educators, parents, students and musicians traveling from this challenging region of the world into our communities to speak a word of peace, hope and possibility. Our special focus is on embracing our common humanity.

Monday, November 5 

Focus: Sharing Interfaith Stories

5:30-7:00   Evening Panel (Niebuhr ) Reception following (Common Room)

                     Welcome: Dean Gregory Sterling

-          Mr. George Saadeh (Greek Orthodox Educator and member of ecumenical group, The Parent’s Circle)

-          Rabbi Noah Cheses, Associate Rabbi, Slifka Center

-          Dr. Mark Braverman, (Author, Educator, Executive Director of Friends of Tent of Nations North America New York City)

-          Eran Efrati (Jewish Israeli presently studying at Columbia University)

-          Dr. Maria Khoury (Palestinian Christian and Educator)

 

 

Thursday, November 8  

12:30-1:30 Roundtable Discussion  (Common Room)

Focus: Education: Embracing our Common Humanity

Welcome: Associate Dean of Students, Dale Peterson

-Nazareth Academic Institute, Israel with Dr. Soher Reihani-Bisharat, Dean of Students

-George Saadeh, Principal of Shepherd’s Field Greek Orthodox School, Palestine, member of The Parents Circle.

- Dr. Anat Biletski, Albert Schweitzer Professor of Philosophy, Quinnipiac University and TelAviv University

5:30-6:45   Evening Presentations (Niebuhr)

followed by Musical Celebration/Community Dinner (Common Room)

Focus: Prayers, Hopes and Visions for the Future
