People Notes - January 2019

Richard Broholm, who served for many years as Executive Director of the Center for the Ministry of the Laity at Andover Newton, and who is the namesake of a YDS classroom, died on Dec. 31 in Massachusetts. Broholm, a 1954 Andover Newton graduate (B.D.), was a champion of the “ministry of the whole people of God,” which is the title of the relief sculpture hanging in the YDS classroom named in his honor. (The painting moved to YDS with Andover Newton and was rededicated in 2017.) “Dick Broholm represents the link between Andover Newton and YDS and the crucial importance of the ministry of the laity,” YDS Dean Greg Sterling said. “The YDS and Andover Newton communities come together to remember his contributions and mourn the end of his fruitful life.” YDS named the classroom in his honor in 2003 through the generosity of George and Carol Bauer.
