People Notes: March 2016

Nancy Jo Kemper ’67 B.D. is the latest YDS alum to announce a run for Congress. Kemper, a member of the YDS Alumni Board and the former executive director of the Kentucky Council of Churches, is running in the 6th Congressional District. She joins Bill Golderer ‘96 M.Div. and Dwight Kealy ‘96 M.A.R., whose congressional challenges were noted previously in Notes from the Quad.

Yii-Jan ‘14 Ph.D. will join the YDS faculty as Assistant Professor of New Testament. Dr. Lin earned her doctorate in 2014 and is currently Assistant Professor of New Testament at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley. Her scholarship explores the relationship between New Testament textual criticism and the biological sciences, as well as ancient constructions of masculinity, sexuality, and literary theory. Her new book, The Erotic Life of Manuscripts (Oxford 2016), examines how metaphors of race, family, evolution, and genetic inheritance have shaped the goals and assumptions of New Testament scholarship. Christian Wiman, senior lecturer in religion and literature at YDS and the Institute of Sacred Music, has won Sewanee Review’s Aiken Taylor Award in Modern American Poetry.
