Everyone in the Yale community, in New Haven, and beyond is invited to a campus-wide open house on Saturday, Oct. 12, 10 a.m-5 p.m. The event is inspired by President Salovey’s commitment to make Yale even more accessible and more unified. Throughout the day, there will be dozens of special tours, performances, and other events. A detailed listing can be found on the Inauguration website, including four exciting exhibitions on the Sterling Divinity Quadrangle.

The Saturday open house offers behind-the-scenes looks at Wright Laboratory, Ingalls Rink, Harkness Tower, and Rudolph Hall (home of the School of Architecture), as well as special activities in the museums, galleries, and other venues. Yale’s professional schools, residential colleges and the Graduate School, including YDS, will welcome visitors, offering a chance to look “inside the gates” at some of Yale’s most distinctive spaces.
Yale Divinity School will offer two exhibitions, one scholarly and one artistic, along with tours of the campus, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.. Student guides will be on-hand to offer tours of the building and quad, and talk about programs and community life at YDS. Also open on campus will be the Institute for Sacred Music Gallery and an exhibit from Yale Divinity Library.

“Icons of The Civil Rights Movement Exhibition”
Yale Divinity School presents the work of artist Pamela Chatterton-Purdy in an exhibition of painted icons featuring prominent leaders of the civil rights movement. The work was inspired by a “Civil Rights Sojourn” tour of the southern United States that ended with a visit to The Lorraine Motel where Dr. King was murdered. The icons reference religious icons, elevating Civil Rights leaders to saintly significance.
“Jonathan Edwards Center Exhibition”
The Jonathan Edwards Center has developed a global network of scholars who collaborate on research of the writings of the most influential early American theologians. The JE Center will present a demonstration of the project and a display of early editions of books by Edwards.
“Medical Missions Around the World”
This exhibit includes manuscript and published materials from the Divinity Library’s Day Missions Collection that document the impact of Western missionaries on the spread of Western medical treatment and training around the world.
“All That Remains: Material Remembrances in Love and Loss”
Enjoy the Institute of Sacred Music’s exhibit with works of Lewis deSoto, Rick Bartow, and Judith Lowry, curated by Anya Montiel.
