YDS student receives prestigious UCC scholarship

The Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) of the United Church of Christ has named YDS student Essence Ellis ‘21 M.Div. its new Rev. Jerry Paul Scholar. The scholarship–held by just one seminary student in the country–supports the education of aspiring leaders in public health ministry.

A Randolph-Macon College graduate, Ellis is the health and wellness ministry intern for Andover Newton Seminary at YDS, Secretary of YDS Student Government, and Treasurer of Yale Black Seminarians.

“[Elilis’] sense of call to public health ministry coupled with her strong sense of justice is a perfect fit for CHHSM’s call to create a just, caring, and compassionate world,” said Michael J. Readinger, CHHSM president and CEO. “We are excited for the gifts she will bring to CHHSM.”
