YDS SUMMER TERM PASTOR OF EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Nominate Your Pastor For a Yale Divinity School Summer Term Scholarship
If you think your pastor is one of the best in the country, you may want to nominate him or her for a scholarship to Yale Divinity School Summer Term in June, 2004.
The Summer Term is a series of one-week courses - in subject areas from history to the arts to Biblical scholarship - taught by the faculty of Yale Divinity School, The Yale Institute of Sacred Music and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. Courses will be held on the YDS campus in New Haven.
Ten scholarships of $1000 are available to defray fee, room, board and travel expenses. Check out the Web site (yale.edu/divinity/summerterm) for course information and to fill out a nomination form. ANNUAL FUND UPDATE
Last year, 50 students were able to take advantage of the financial aid YDS was able to offer them, and our hope is that next year, we can bump that number up to 65 students.
So far, we are off to a great start ($250,000 raised to date), but we need to raise $200,000 more by June 30th. Scholarship gifts make an enormous difference in the life of a student. For some, the amount of their scholarship offer will determine their ability to attend YDS. For others, the amount they had to borrow for their Divinity School education will determine their debt burden for years, sometimes decades, after graduation.
You can make a difference by providing scholarship support for students through the YDS Annual Fund, 100% of which provides direct support for student scholarships.

CAREER SERVICES OPEN FOR BUSINESS
Over the summer, Yale Divinity School opened its first Office of Career Services. Under the leadership of alumna Susan Olson ‘93, the office’s primary functions are to provide personal advising in the career discernment process, workshops and individual sessions to train students in the skills of job seeking, and access to various listings of appropriate vacancies.
One way in which students will be kept abreast of current openings is through NACElink on-line recruiting system, sponsored by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). This system allows employers to electronically list vacancies within their organizations and businesses. Information about these vacancies is made available only to students and alumni/ae of the institutions selected by the employers. An employer can list with one university, with several, or even with all of the participating institutions. Positions are listed for 30 days, unless they are renewed by the employer. There is a nominal fee involved in posting a position ($15 for one institution, for example). NACElink can be accessed through our department’s web page: http://divinity.yale.edu/life-yds/career-services.
The NACElink system carries several advantages to it: students can job search from their homes and at their convenience, vacancies can be announced immediately and removed from circulation promptly after being filled, and positions appropriate for students at numerous institutions can be advertised simultaneously. In addition, alumni/ae will have access to the same listing system. Alumni and alumnae are encouraged to assist one another by listing positions on NACElink that would be appropriate for experienced persons.
There are, of course, some churches and organizations who will find the $15 fee to be prohibitive. These groups are encouraged to send a one page notice of vacancy to Susan Olson (susan.olson@yale.edu) at the Divinity School (409 Prospect St. New Haven, CT 06511). These vacancy listings will be made available to students through the career office. Please limit paper announcements to one page.
Alumni/ae are urged to spread the word about Yale Divinity School graduates to their colleagues, professional and denominational organizations, charitable interests and friends. Please consider listing employment opportunities of all kinds through Yale Divinity School. Our graduates are eager to find employment opportunities and do appreciate anything you can do to help them in their search.
