On November 3rd and 4th, in partnership with the Henri Nouwen Society and the Thomas Merton Center, Yale Divinity School will host a conference titled, “Henri Nouwen and Thomas Merton: Spiritual Guides for the 21st Century.”
This conference will commemorate the contributions and legacies of Nouwen and Merton, while also remembering Henri’s professorship at YDS from 1971 to 1981, during which he taught a course on Merton’s spirituality.
Keynote speakers at the conference include Ron Rolheiser, Robert Ellsberg, Jim Forest, and Michael W. Higgins. Leading breakout sessions are Gabrielle Earnshaw, Monica Weis, and Carol Berry, among others.
The conference will include a commemorative concert performance by Grammy-winning saxophonist Paul Winter. Also, Jim Hackney ’79 M.A.R., who studied with Nouwen during his student days at YDS, will facilitate an open microphone for Henri Nouwen remembrances.
