M. Shawn Copeland, Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College, will give the Taylor Lectures at Yale Divinity School on February 19, 20, and 21. All three lectures will take place at 5:30 p.m. in Niebuhr Hall, with a reception to follow the last.
Professor Copeland’s lectures will explore the demands placed on theology by what she describes as the “weight, yearning, and urgency of life” in world plagued by “zones of abandonment.” She will discuss how these demands push theology to grapple with the weight of social oppression and the social and personal suffering it causes; to meet with tenderness, compassion, and practical solidarity the yearning of the abandoned; and, in the face of death, to contest idolatry and nurture life.
