David E. Price ’64 B.D., ’66 M.A., ’69 Ph.D.
Congressman David E. Price represented North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives for over 30 years. Price served on the House Appropriations Committee, including as chair of the subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Related Agencies.
In North Carolina, Price is known as a strong supporter of education, accessible health care, affordable housing, clean air and water, and improved transportation alternatives, as well as an advocate for North Carolinians who have served the country including veterans, active-duty troops, members of the Guard and Reserves, and local first responders.
In addition to a B.D from YDS, Congressman Price earned a Ph.D. at Yale in Political Science. Prior to running for office, Congressman Price taught Political Science at Duke University. In 1992, he published The Congressional Experience, which details the rules, norms, processes, and ethics of public service from his vantage point as a political scientist and a sitting member of Congress. As of 2020, there were four editions of this book.
In 2006, Congressman Price was awarded Yale Divinity School’s William Sloane Coffin ‘56 Award for Peace and Justice
