Diving Into Divinity

Last week, you all should have received an email from Jennifer Herdt, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, about our Diving Into Divinity online orientation program. While we know you’re busy packing and moving and looking at classes, I strongly encourage you all to devote some time to the online orientation modules as a way to academically orient you to your studies at Yale. Diving Into Divinity will also provide an introduction to Canvas, which you all will be using in the coming year to find readings for classes, uploading papers and other associate coursework. Enjoy and we’ll see you soon!

From Dean Herdt’s letter:
Diving Into Divinity is designed to offer a compact but meaty introduction to core theological disciplines.  Each videomodule features a different member of the YDS faculty, and the modules are organized around a common theme, explored in relation to the various disciplines:  the theme of Water. We have chosen water as our theme because it is a critical resource for life, at the heart of multiple global crises today, and a theme that has multiple rich theological resonances.
Students in the previous two iterations of the program have found that Diving into Divinity offered a stimulating entry point into their studies and helped them feel more comfortable from the very outset of their time at YDS with the methodologies, vocabularies, and questions that define various forms of theological study.  Even S.T.M. and M.A.R. students concentrating in areas that are remote from these disciplines will find the modules invaluable for situating their studies within the ecology of Yale Divinity School.  I hope that you, too, will find it valuable and engaging.
