DEATH OF PATRICIA LOUISE PICKETT STONEBURNER

Patricia Louise Pickett Stoneburner died Friday 9 July 2021 at Jones Harrison on Cedar Lake Avenue, where she had transferred from assisted living into hospice care, in Minneapolis MN. She was 90 years old.

Pat was born to Warren Wheeler Pickett, a Congregational clergy person, & Christine Pickett, a playwright, 20 September1930 in Forest Hills NV (through her mother she was the descendent of two missionaries to China, her grandmother & her great grandmother).

Pat grew up in Detroit & New Haven & graduated Mount Holyoke College (her sisters, mother, grandmother, & great grandmother attend the school before her)

Pat was a campus minister with Presbyterian sponsorship. Her first decade of campus ministry was at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. During that period, she married Tony Stoneburner, then a Methodist campus minister & later an academic (1962). His employment  by Denison University took them to Granville OH. Their daughter, carol Elizabeth was born in 1967 & Pat gave some time to child-raising before her second decade of campus ministry at the Newark Branch of Ohio State University.

While in Ann Arbor, on their observance of their first wedding anniversary, they discovered the islands of Penobscot Bay, acquired land on Little Deer Isle, & built Thresholds, their summer-place for the next third of a century.

Pat & family also made more than half a dozen periodic visits to Great Britain &, twice, once with daughter, once with husband, toured France. The whole family especially prized the two summers in Bagendon, a hamlet in the Cotswolds.

Urbanite who spend a quarter of a century in a village, she enjoyed the semester after her retirement spent in Chicago when Tony was co-director of a seminar at the Newberry Library. It made both eager to accept invitation of daughter to join her in the Tywin Cities for  the  final phase of  their retirement.  As they had delighted in Fourth Presbyterian Church, Chicago, they delighted in Pilgrim Congregational Church, Minneapolis.

Pat delighted in games, especially Bridge & Scrabble. She shall have music wherever she goes, & color, & joy, & love.
