Cam West, M.Div.

Class of
1978
Denomination:
Methodist, United

I have recently enjoyed visits with long-time friends and classmates David Joyce and Ed Beddingfield. Ed and I are not only YDS classmates, but also high school and undergraduate university classmates, and we also served congregations literally located side-by-side in Warrenton, NC, early in our ministries.

Summer, 2019, will mark the beginning of my 17th year as President of Huntingdon College, a United Methodist baccalaureate liberal arts institution in Montgomery, AL. Off-campus professional activities that I find especially rewarding are service on the Duke Divinity School Board of Visitors and the Board of Directors of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). My wife, Elizabeth, and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in October, 2019. We have taken two trips to YDS and have hosted Dean Harry Attridge and Professor Carlos Eire for lectureships during our time at Huntingdon. Elizabeth enjoys leading students on Huntingdon Study-Travel trips both internationally and domestically.

Our daughter, Grace, graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, TN, in 2014. After working several years as managing director of an art gallery in Washington, DC, she is now employed as a development officer at Duke University, Durham, NC. Our son, William, graduated from Wofford College, Spartanburg, SC, in 2018. After an internship with the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP), in Asheville, NC, he is now working as an apprentice farmer at Gaining Ground Farm, a long-established sustainable farm in Leicester, NC, west of Asheville.

Our family enjoys gathering for frequent reunions at our mountain home in Lake Junaluska, NC, where Elizabeth and I plan to retire in a day not too soon and not yet determined!
