Dean Lindsey, M.Div.

Class of
1986
Denomination:
Presbyterian, USA

Since 2013, my wife Peggy (M.Div., 1985) and I have lived in State College, PA where I am the pastor of the State College Presbyterian Church. Previously, I had the blessing of serving churches in Chicago, Virginia, and Houston. Our kids are grown and living in fun places to visit--NYC, Chicago, and Ann Arbor.
Besides attending to the duties of preaching, teaching, administration, and pastoral care, I am an avid mountain biker on the rocky trails of Central Pennsylvania. Soon I will be riding my bike with others from Interfaith Power and Light, traveling from State College to Washington, DC in order to encourage better stewardship of God's creation, raise awareness around the vital issue of climate change and to lobby our Congressional representatives to enact meaningful legislation to promote sustainability. In January, 2020, Peggy and I will be spending time in the Republic of Kiribati with our good YDS friend Bati Kirata (STM, 1986). Kiribati in the South Pacific is under serious threat due to rising sea levels and coastal erosion as is my hometown of New Orleans, a place dear to me that I return to frequently. I contribute to the work of GenOn ministries which develops programs and resources for intergenerational ministry, including the Logos program which has been a big part of each of my last three churches. I serve when asked on boards of organizations--secular or faith based--engaged in advocacy or charitable work that strengthen communities and respond to the needs of the vulnerable.
I still attach great value to the learning I gained at YDS. My only regret is losing contact with some wonderful people as these 30+ years have sped by. Not long ago, Peggy and I attended a June Continuing Ed event at YDS. It was a lot of fun taking a class in what was formerly my dorm room in Bushnell, now converted into a classroom.
