After Yale Divinity School, I did a Ph.D. in theology at Duke University and taught religion and theology in subsequent years. I was professor of theology and later dean of the Divinity School of Duke University from 1982-1997. I was also head of school at Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, VA from 1997-2014. I am currently Vice Chair and Trustee of The Duke Endowment and a trustee of the Montpelier Foundation, the National Humanities Center and the School for Ethics and Global Leadership. I am ordained in the United Methodist Church. Leesa Heydenreich Campbell (YDS '69) and I were married in June, 1970. We have two children, Margaret Krause, of Charlotte NC and Trevor Campbell of Alexandria, VA and three grandchildren, Campbell and Banks Krause and Caroline Campbell. Our principal residence is Durham, NC and we also have homes in Washington, DC and Northfield, MA.
