Don Saliers, B.D., Ph.D.

Class of
1962

Don Saliers, marking the 50th year of teaching, is currently appointed as Theologian-in-Residence at Candler School of Theology, and still working with graduate students in liturgy and theology in the Graduate Division of Religion at Emory University. His book on Music and Theology was recently translated into Italian, and his monthly essays occur in The American Organist. He serves as the national chaplain for the American Guild of Organists, taking him here and there to lecture and to preach in a variety of churches. Don is working on a project on music and the psalms (especially the problem of lament denial in current American culture.)

Don reports, “I maintain steady contact with Yale by teaching various events for the Institute for Sacred Music, and my chamber music schedule is very satisfying, including stints at the Bennington Chamber Music sessions.  Another musical part of my life is collaborating on music and justice concerts with my daughter Emily in churches and other events, including one in April for the Association of Pastoral Care at YDS.

I get in a fair amount of hiking in Vermont and have the privilege of beautiful parks in which to jog/walk here in Atlanta. Among classmates, I stay in touch regularly with Larry Minear.  All in all, blessed beyond deserving, with gratitude for our shared time at YDS.”
