I think my primary achievement in seminary was finding and marrying Kathy Lantis. We were among the few clergy couples at that time (1966) who were aiming at ordained ministry before we met. Kathy was waiting at 409 when I arrived.

Having prepared diligently at YDS for ministry with ecumenical organizations, it was the parish that got me from ordination onward. It all started in Brussels, at the American Protestant Church, and ended in Paris at the American Church -- both happy overseas sojourns. The twenty-five years in between saw local-church service in Denver, Corvallis (OR) and Concord (NH). Interims in Ohio, Wisconsin and Paris took me to retirement. Since then my focus as been on stewardship in our Seattle congregation and the prevention of homelessness in the wider community.

Through it all, Kathy (YDS '69) has pursued her calling in Clinical Pastoral Education, the vocation she discovered with Ed Dobihal during our New Haven years and built into a substantial contribution to her discipline, including stints as both national and international president of CPE associations. She retired officially at age 75 but keeps her involvement active as I write.
