Ivan Burnett, M.Div

Class of
1965
Denomination:
Methodist, United

The last four years I have written and self-published three volumes of hymns, hymn tunes, preludes and anthems. They have been used by churches in various denominations in more than ten states, including in St. Patrick's Cathedral, NYC.

Immediately after graduating from YDS, I served pastorates in MS and AZ until 1972 when I went to The Claremont School of Theology to earn a doctorate. Following that, I served for more than 26 years as a Navy Chaplain, retiring as an 0-6.

Since retiring to Arizona, in addition to writing music, I have been on The United Methodist General Board of Higher Education and Endorsing Committee, volunteered as the Area Chaplain Visitor of the Southwest Region, and served as a staff member at a camp for people with AIDS.

I've been happily married to Joanne Munsil Burnett for over 50 years. We are the proud parents of two sons, Daniel and David, and four wonderful grandchildren.

I still stand in awe of the professors and classmates with whom I attended YDS and consider my days there the most formative of my life.
