Norval Reece, B.D.

Class of

After three rather distinct careers as a civil rights and anti-Vietnam War activist, candidate and campaign manager in the ‘60s, governmental employee in the ‘70s as Pennsylvania Secretary of Commerce and Special Assistant to the Governor, and cable TV entrepreneur in the ‘80s-‘90s, I sold all my interests (including the cable TV franchise for the entire country of Poland) and Ann (nee Benson, Sweet Briar ’63) retired from teaching in 1999 so we could spend more time with family, charitable groups, and travel.

Ann  and I continue to live in our 1740 farm house in Bucks County, PA and spend our summers sailing, fishing, whale watching and playing tennis in Chatham on Cape Cod with frequent visits by serious sailors and deep-sea fishermen sons Tim (NYC in finance, MBA Columbia) and Stockton (Boston, Director of Community Boat Building, a STEM credit program for 4th graders from public schools in poverty areas, MBA University of Michigan).

We enjoy exploring remote corners of the globe via small boats (100-150 people), often with the Yale Alumni Association, e.g. Polynesian Islands, Machu Picchu, Amazon, Easter Island, China, Bering Sea, Greece, Galapagos, India, Arctic, Russia, Tanzania, New Zealand, etc.  And I presently serve on the boards of Friends Fiduciary Corporation (manages and invests $360 million for Quaker Meetings and organizations), George School, Haverford College, and The David Library of the American Revolution.
