Scott McRae, M.Div.

Class of
1985

I retired in Sept. from a part-time CPE Educator position at the University of Minnesota Hospital on my 65th birthday. That ended a career that included parish and campus ministry with the ELCA (Lutheran) Church, and 26 years as a CPE Educator. I also spent 14 years directing a spiritual care and ethics department for a health care organization in a suburb of Minneapolis. We live in Minneapolis, and three times a year love our home-away-from-home on the north shore of Lake Superior.

For 14 years I have also run Sojourners Institute, and I am now devoting almost full time to this home business. I offer spiritual direction, spiritual direction training, workshops and groups on psycho-spiritual development, and various online classes.

Melanie Alman (class of ‘86) and I have been married for 39 years and we still really like each other. Melanie is a bereavement counselor for hospice, yoga teacher, has a small sewing business (bags & clothes), and does a little spiritual direction. Yes, it’s a lot, and she loves it!

Our adult daughter is a private practice therapist working primarily in the autism community with small children and their families. She lives with her partner on the other side of Minneapolis, and we love seeing her weekly. Finally, we have three goofy, loveable, elderly rescue dogs to round out our household.

I had two YDS CPE students this summer so received through them a window into life today at the school. Much has changed, and much hasn’t. Still have so many fond memories of the place and the wonderful friends I found there.

I enjoyed a recent zoom conversation with Jeff Oak, and had an enjoyable weekend with Colin McGinnis at his family’s wonderfully remote, northern Minnesota cabin.

Would love to hear from you. You can reach me through my website: https://www.sojournersinstitute.com/
