Ki Joo (KC) Choi, ‘98 M.Div.
KC has been on the faculty of Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ since 2005. He is an associate professor in the Department of Religion, teaching and writing in the areas of ecumenical ethics (Catholic and Reformed moral theology), political ethics, aesthetics and ethics, and the political morality of race and ethnicity.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, KC spent his early childhood in southern California before moving to Queens, New York City. He received his B.A. in political science from Yale College in 1995 and then received his M.Div. from Yale Divinity School in 1998. In 2006, he received his Ph.D. in theological ethics from Boston College, under the direction of Lisa Sowle Cahill.
In addition to articles and reviews in publications including the Journal of Religious Ethics, Journal of Religion, and the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics, KC is the co-editor of the first edition of Christianity and Culture, an undergraduate reader in the Catholic intellectual tradition. He is currently working on a monograph on art and moral deliberation, a series on ethics and Asian American identity, and a case study on evolutionary biology and theological ethics.
He also serves on the advisory board of the Ethics Institute at Kent Place School in Summit, NJ and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics. KC is a past convener of the Religion and Society Section of the College Theology Society and currently serves as the co-convener of the Asian and Asian American Ethics Working Group of the Society of Christian Ethics.
At Seton Hall, he served on the executive committee of the university’s faculty senate and is now co-chair of the assessment working group for Seton Hall’s Middle States re-accreditation review. He also plays an active role in the administration and development of the University Core, an innovative undergraduate curriculum implemented in 2009.
He and his spouse Amanda (M.Div. ’00) have two young children, Nathaniel and Samantha, and live in Summit, NJ.
