Salary: $60,000
Hours: Full-time paid position. Hours coordinated with job responsibilities but will include weekly rehearsals and Sunday morning worship service.
Purpose: Develop and lead the worship music ministry for the church, in consultation with the Pastor, building it in a way that is consistent with FPC’s mission, values and theology.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Plan, organize, coordinate, and conduct the music program of the church to bring glory to God.
2. Recruit, organize and conduct choirs and instrumental groups.
3. Serve as accompanist for services.
4. Play for special services, weddings and funerals as needed.
5. Direct musical programming for congregational events.
6. Meet regularly with Pastor in planning and coordinating the music for all worship services.
7. Attend weekly staff meetings and participate, actively and cooperatively with other staff members.
8. Oversee the maintenance and servicing of the church’s musical instruments.
9. Select and purchase music that will become part of the church music library. Keep music library organized.
10. Attend and report to monthly meeting of Worship Committee.
11. Coordinate and plan special music services and programs, recruit musicians and singers, schedule rehearsals, procure materials.
12. Incorporate appropriate contemporary music into the worship service.
13. Assist children’s music presentations as needed.
14. Coordinate Handbell choir and other music ministry opportunities for the church.
15. Other duties as needed or assigned by Pastor.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in music and experience in directing a church music program and playing organ and piano for a congregation; or equivalent combination and experience.
Skills:
1. Thorough knowledge of music theory, hymnology, contemporary music, and reformed theology as they relate to church music ministries and activities.
2. Extensive skill in organ, piano, and vocal music. Handbell experience preferred.
3. Considerable knowledge or resources and professional literature and association to support the music ministry.
4. Working knowledge of musical instruments (organ, piano, praise band, etc.)
5. Ability to interpret and communicate Christiancommitment through the medium of music.
6. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Maintain a healthy relationship with staff members.
7. Exercise tact, kindness, and courtesy in dealing with committees, volunteers, church staff and members.
8. Willingness to modify work schedule and provide services on weekends, nights and at special services as needed.

Equipment Used: Three manual Goulding and Wood pipe organ (in Sanctuary), electric organ (in chapel), piano, office computer with various software programs as needed, telephone and copier. Five octave set of Schulmerichhandbells and/or harpsichord.
