Church Organist/Pianist

We are a church whose worship, communal life, and outreach to the New Haven and university communities are inspired by the Biblical message of God’s redeeming love for humanity in Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Located in the heart of East Rock, a New Haven neighborhood, and blocks from Yale University, St. John’s has always had strong ties to the Yale community, including Yale Divinity School and its Episcopal Seminary, Berkeley Divinity School. 

We are looking for a Church Organist/Pianist to lead our church services.  The ideal candidate will have good musicianship and should be open to playing a variety of styles. If you have a passion for music and working with people, we want to hear from you!

 
Qualifications:
  • Ability to lead the congregation in order of worship playing prelude, hymns, songs, and service music during Sunday morning services using the piano or organ.
  • Open to learning and playing traditional and modern hymns as well as contemporary worship music.
  • Flexible and willing to grow and change as our congregation does.
  • Experience in rehearsing and accompanying a choir preferred, but not required
  • Degree in music preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities
  • The Organist/Pianist reports to the Music Committee and Pastor
  • Approximately three or four Sunday morning services per month (negotiable)
  • Occasional special services (eg. Good Friday, Christmas Eve)
  • Occasional choir rehearsals (negotiable)
Benefits: $150-200 per service, based on experience.
