Senior Pastor/Head of Staff
Central Presbyterian Church, affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), founded in 1848 and located in the heart of Des Moines, Iowa—is seeking a Senior Pastor/Head of Staff. Responsibilities:

Leading worship with strong preaching.

Responsible for cultivating and nurturing a culture that communicates joy and justice through studying, teaching, and preaching the Word, celebrating Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and for praying with and for the congregation.

In concert with the Session, encourage the worship and service of God; equip and enable the Session, Board of Deacons and Church Foundation Board for their tasks within the church and their mission in the world.

Exercises pastoral care for our members, participates in governing responsibilities, including leadership of the congregation in implementing the principles of participation and inclusiveness in the decision-making life of the congregation, and its task of reaching out in concern and service to the life of the human community. and devoting special attention to those in need.

Participates with the Board of Deacons in the ministries of compassion, witness, and service.

In addition to these pastoral duties, the Senior Pastor is responsible for sharing in the ministry of the church in councils higher than the Session and in ecumenical relationships.
Qualifications:

Strong preaching skills that challenge minds and hearts
-
Knowledge of strategic planning and strategy management, particularly how the overall strategic approach to our mission must be linked with sound financial development, fiduciary oversight, and organizational learning.

A solid background in human resources management, or willingness to take human resources management training to develop the required knowledge.

Ability to rely upon the expertise of others as necessary and appropriate.

Knowledge of digital communication techniques and formats to enhance our messages and refresh our brand.

Skills to encourage fellowship in a wide variety of ways, a strong commitment and ability in pastoral care, and comfort in resolving conflict.

Ability to identify, encourage, and empower people to share their gifts with the church, whether through committee work, Deacons Board, Session or special projects.

Skilled at connecting people to accomplish goals and tasks for the church and a willingness to encourage people to “step up” to leadership.

Skilled at change management to achieve spiritual growth, renewal and contentment. Skilled and experienced with an innovative and creative approach to faith formation and lifelong learning.

Knowledge of, adherence to and commitment in assisting others in Presbyterian polity.

Sharp focus on what is needed to increase engagement in our church in a 21st century context.
