The Lutheran Summer Gathering is a vacation week for learning, worship, fellowship and recreation, held at the YMCA Retreat & Conference Center, on beautiful Lake George. The center is about 1/2 way up the lake on the western side. The setting is spectacular - with all kinds of recreational activities - 2 beaches, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, tennis, ice cream store, crafts (silver and stained glass) - pretty much you name it.
Lutherans have been gathering for one week at Silver Bay on Lake George for more than 80 years. Last year there were 220 of us. We provide programming for those who wish to participate. It is a great gathering of people who want to spend vacation time in Christian community.
I am hoping that you might consider being a youth leader at the Gathering this summer. This involves connecting with a dozen teens from 12-16 years old. This involves around three or four hours per day. The activities can include outdoor games and recreation, relationship building, guided conversation around faith/ethics etc, bible study, etc. We provide all materials and supplies. We provide an overall calendar of activities for the week, which you could plug the youth into. We have outdoor worship each evening after dinner by the lake, which can involve youth leadership. We have a worship leader and two activity leaders who can collaborate with you on ideas and space needs and food needs. We also have campfires, and game nights. Some youth are “regulars” at Silver Bay and others will be there for the first time. Mixers of some kind are important, especially for those who don’t know anyone. The Punkee is our in-house digital newsletter that is published daily. The Youth can get involved in posting in this if they wish.
You have access to all the facilities, beaches, activities, etc. that Silver Bay offers. Check in is Saturday afternoon after 3 pm and you can leave Friday after lunch. Finally there are four sites that give you more information about our program and about Silver Bay. They are:
